We think a book ought to be judged by its content. Our 'Discovery' platform puts books out there with just a few adjectives and a chapter of text. If it grabs people, they just click 'like.' Grab enough people and your book will be unlocked and the snowball will begin to roll! The book will be available - for free - to subscribers so long as the reading velocity keeps rising.

Payment
It costs $50 to put a book on Snowball.Read. In return you get 30% of subscriber revenue (distributed based on page reads) and 30% of sales. We sell books by the chapter, with a flat rate per word. Subscribers pay 5 cents/1000 words, others pay 10 cents/1000 words. A typical 80,000 word book will net you $2-$4/reader.
Partnership
If your book reaches 100 million words read, then Avalanche Books has the rights to be the exclusive publisher of that book. Our system worked with your content to make something beautiful. Of course, we want you to ride the snowball again so we work with you - and never against you.
Risk?
If the book fails to get past the 'Discovery' stage, we retain no rights over it. In addition, if traditional agents and publishers ask 'did you self-publish this book?' You can say 'no.' All you shared was a single chapter. If the book fizzles out somewhere between 'unlocked' and 100 million words? Then we retain the right to sell the book on our site (with you getting your cut). But we do not retain the right of exclusivity. You can approach other publishers, put it on Kindle or whatever...
